Washington DC : Surprise Anniversary Getaway

In December, Ryan and I will be celebrating 5 years of marriage. Jesus has blessed us with many miracles and memories in such a short amount of time. Grateful is an understatement.

A few months ago we talked about taking a little trip for the celebration. It’s the first time in about 3 years that I’m not pregnant or breastfeeding so it seemed like prime time in the parenting world.

However, in planning our holiday plans and looking at tickets and hotels it didn’t seem sensible.

So, when Ryan gave me a card on my November birthday date that told me in 10 days we’d be in Washington DC I was shocked! He planned it all out: hotel, flight, even set up a babysitter (THANK YOU GRANDMA !).

In some ways, a short trip can feel like “what’s the point?” but we tend to live by the “life is short, you’ve gotta squeeze in adventures when you can” philosophy.

Also, we keep hearing the same answer over and over when we ask seasoned parents, “What’s your tip on raising awesome kids?” and over and over we hear “you work on your marriage”. It seems like quite a Jesus answer, right? As in it’s not really answering your question, but we are committed to the inconvenient pursual of pursuing each other. Serving one another, enjoying one another, and continuing to learn each other as we change through seasons and life.

Here‘s some pictures of our fun.

This city definitely deserves more than 48 hours. It’s amazing! But we are so grateful for the time we did have.

Much Love,

Abby
